What do you think of when you hear the word “plein air painting?
Romance, travel, nomad, freedom, or think of the Impressionists, Monet, Cézanne or Van Gogh?

At first, I thought of "romantic"! The western coast of California, with beautiful scenery and a comfortable and mild climate, is really suitable for outdoor painting, whether it is enjoying the sea breeze by the sea, enjoying the field scenery in the pasture, or the fragrance in the forest, through nature Inspire creative inspiration.

But I have to be honest, after more than a year of trying, I have deeply realized that painting outdoors actually has a very hard side, such as: wind blowing, sun exposure, rain, insect bites, bee stings, or having to endure The noise of crowded people or cars when painting in the city is really a mental and physical test. Therefore, I can't help but feel admiration for the plain air painters who are still working tirelessly in this field!

I would like to recommend a few painters here. They have at least 10 to 15 years of experience in plein air painting, and each has a unique style, which is worthy of study and admiration by emerging painters.

Every year a plein air painting competition is held in Carmel-by-the-sea. This year coincides with the 30th anniversary, and the conference specially invites 60 artists to compete and exhibit on site. Here I would also like to share with you many of the works that I admired at the scene.

聽到寫生這兩個字，會讓你聯想到什麼？浪漫，旅行，遊牧、自由，還是想到了印象派畫家們，莫內，塞尚還是梵谷？

最初，我想到的是「浪漫」！加州西部海岸，風景綺麗，而且氣候舒適溫和的時候，真的是好適合在戶外寫生，不論是在海邊享受海風，或是在牧場享受田野風光，亦或是森林的芬多精，透過大自然啟發創作靈感。

但是我必須誠實的說，經過這一年多來的嘗試，深深體會到戶外寫生，其實也有挺辛苦的一面，譬如：風吹、日曬、雨淋、蟲咬、蜜蜂叮咬，或是必須忍受都市寫生時喧嘩吵雜的人聲或車聲，著實是一種精神與體力上的考驗。因此，對於在這個領域仍然努力不懈的寫生畫家，我的敬佩之心不禁油然而生！

我想在這邊推薦幾位畫家，他們的寫生資歷至少15年以上，每位的風格獨特，值得後輩學習及敬佩。
